"Hi my name is Yeyan and I study Japanese using the Centra Program at Australind Senior High School. My delivery teacher is based at my school and teaches from her own office. But, she visits us many times during the lesson.

I was really excited about e-learning. I was also a little curious at first, but it turned out to be really great fun.

My parents did not have any concerns about e-Learning. They thought it would be a good way to learn and get the students more engaged.

I really like the Centra program and it’s really convenient compared to the telephone. I really like the interactive white board and the use of the headphones and microphones.

I think my grades will improve because I stay more focussed when I’m studying online.

When we want to speak with our teacher we just press the hand button and speak through the microphone.

I’ve met other students who study online from Perth, Busselton and other places.

I think e-Learning is lots of fun.

"At first I was slightly reluctant about e-Learning in Year 12 because I studied Biology on site in a traditional classroom at Collie Senior High School in Year 11.

But now, it’s great! I enjoy working at my own pace and I enjoy having a lot of one on one time with the teacher if I need because we have a small class.

I always meet my deadlines and my marks have improved. Biology is now my best subject!

I get to talk to my teacher at least once a week outside of class and if I don’t understand something I call her or email her.

The supervising teacher is great. She wants us to do well and helps us as much as she can. She keeps us motivated.

The program we use is called Centra and it’s very user friendly.

I would recommend e-Learning if you enjoy working independently and without interruption from students in a traditional classroom setting."

“Hi my name is Sohpie Dormer and I study English, Geography and Human Biology through SIDE.

I really enjoy working at my own pace. I have lots of written resources to access and I can listen to lectures again at any time from anywhere.

I think you need to be self motivated to study online because the teachers expect you to complete the work they set. I email my assessments to my teacher, which allow me more time to work on them.

I talk to my delivery teacher at least once a week through the Centra Program and our teachers expect us to call them if we are having difficulties.

I’ve met other students at SIDE revision seminars, which makes is far less impersonal and puts a face to a name and voice.

The Centra Program is very user friendly. It helps with bullying because it’s completely teacher controlled.

I also think it’s better to have an experienced SIDE teacher than an inexperienced classroom teacher.”
